Mori Katsushi — 彩瓷 Saiji 草文花生 Soumon Hanaire (Polychrome Porcelain Grass-Pattern Flower Vase) with 共箱 Tomobako

This refined flower vase exemplifies the distinctive ceramic style of Mori Katsushi, a full member of the Japan Kogei Association (日本工芸会 Nihon Kogeikai). The piece is executed in saiji — polychrome porcelain — featuring freely flowing grass motifs (kusamon) rendered with exceptional delicacy across the surface. The fluid, organic lines of the design reflect Mori's mastery of overglaze colour technique, achieving a luminous depth and painterly expressiveness that elevates functional form into fine art. The vessel's well-balanced silhouette and the confident brushwork are hallmarks of a mature artist who has exhibited at the prestigious Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition (日本伝統工芸展 Nihon Dentō Kōgei Ten) over thirty consecutive times.

The work is accompanied by a tomobako (artist's original wooden box) bearing the artist's hand-written signature and personal seal. The base of the vessel carries a ceramic seal (tōin), a matching impressed seal, and an original numbered sticker (No. 16) — with a corresponding numbered tag preserved in the box, confirming this piece was purchased directly at one of the artist's own exhibitions.
Provenance: Private collection; acquired at the artist's solo/group exhibition.
