DESCRIPTION
a ntique walking stick dating to the first half of the 20th century, featuring a slender black ebonized wooden shaft and a 14K gold-mounted handle.
Characteristics:
Ebonized wooden shaft, elegant and slender
Length: approx. 91 cm
14K gold handle, hallmarked “14K”
Engraved “BG” monogram within a decorative cartouche
Estimated weight of the gold handle between approx. 8 and 15 grams (non-invasive estimation)
Internal metal rod construction, typical of period manufacture
Removable ferrule (tip)
Condition:
Good overall condition, consistent with age and use.
Minor wear to the shaft. The gold handle remains well preserved, with clear hallmark and engraving.
Provenance:
Acquired as part of a lot at an auction in Malta, originating from a private ecclesiastical collection.
According to the tradition of the collection, the walking stick is associated with the Italian tenor Beniamino Gigli (1890–1957).
The item has been submitted to the Beniamino Gigli Museum in Recanati (Italy), which considered it relevant to the artist, although no formal certification is provided.
