两本江户时代日本木版印刷的书籍——《南総里見八犬伝》——日本,19世纪 - Kyokutei Bakin - 日本 - 江戶時代晚期
Set of two antique Japanese woodblock-printed books from the Edo period / 19th century, both related to the famous epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden 南総里見八犬伝, also known as The Eight Dog Chronicles or The Tale of Eight Dogs.
Nansō Satomi Hakkenden was written by Kyokutei Bakin, also known as Takizawa Bakin. It is one of the most celebrated works of Japanese popular literature from the late Edo period. The novel was published over a long period, from 1814 to 1842, and follows the adventures of eight heroic warriors connected to the Satomi clan.
The books contain traditional Japanese woodblock-printed text and illustrations, with dramatic scenes including warriors, nobles, demons and legendary figures. The illustrations are in the style of Edo-period popular printed books and are associated with artists such as Keisai Eisen and other ukiyo-e illustrators connected to the publication history of Hakkenden.
This lot includes two separate volumes/booklets, offered together as a single collection. They are ideal for collectors of Japanese woodblock printing, Edo-period literature, samurai culture, ukiyo-e illustration and antique Asian books.
