Description:
A sophisticated Japanese bronze (copper alloy) vase crafted by the renowned artisan Shuzan (秀山) in Takaoka, a city world-famous for its traditional metal casting heritage spanning over 400 years.
This piece features a stunning archaic motif, drawing inspiration from ancient Chinese ritual bronzes. The central band is decorated with deeply cast Taotie (gluttonous ogre) patterns and stylized geometric swirls, symbols traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits. The vase is flanked by two elegantly sculpted dragon-head handles, adding a sense of power and mythological significance to the silhouette.
One of the most striking features is the polychrome patina. The surface displays a masterful "Koshoku" (antique) finish, blending deep earthy greens and mottled rust-reds to simulate the weathered appearance of excavated antiquities. This technique is a hallmark of high-end Takaoka metalwork.
