Rare Yombe statue. well preserved. 22x10x11 cm The Yombe (also called Bayombe, Mayombe or Yumbi) are a Bantu people belonging to the larger Kongo cultural group. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), they mainly inhabit the dense Mayombe forest region and the northwest of the Central Congo province. They have a social structure based on clans and lineages traced matrilineally. They are widely celebrated for the richness of their artistic production in Central Africa.
