The result is an organic, disc-shaped body with a narrow, tri-lobed opening and a small loop handle — each element formed entirely by hand without the use of molds. The surface is finished with a fine satin frost, giving the piece a misty, cloud-like appearance in ambient light. When struck by direct light, the inner layers of vivid lime green emerge in dramatic relief, revealing rich depth and a constellation of trapped bubbles and swirling white inclusions beneath the surface. The contrast between the translucent frosted exterior and the glowing interior green creates a luminous, ever-changing visual effect. Artist Profile 藤田喬平 Fujita Kyohei（1921–2004）was one of Japan's most celebrated glass artists, born in Tokyo and trained at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts. After graduating, he joined a glassware manufacturer before establishing himself as an independent artist. In the 1960s he pioneered his iconic "ryūdō" (flowing glass) series, capturing glass in mid-motion as it cools and solidifies. From the 1970s onward, Fujita worked extensively at the glassblowing studios of Murano, Venice, mastering traditional Venetian techniques — including canna patterning — and reinterpreting them through a Japanese aesthetic lens. His celebrated kazari-bako (decorative box) series, incorporating colored glass and gold leaf, earned international acclaim as a modern expression of Rinpa aesthetics. Fujita received the Order of Culture (Bunka Kunsho) in 2002 — the first glass artist ever to be so honored — and was designated a Person of Cultural Merit in 1997. His works are held in major collections including the Toyama Glass Art Museum and the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art. The Fujita Kyohei Glass Museum, located in Matsushima, Miyagi, is dedicated to his life's work.
