This is an extremely rare, handcrafted Japanese flower vase (hanairi) from the Showa-Heisei period, a true survivor of a fading traditional craft.
Unlike modern mass-produced decor, this piece was entirely made by hand: the rich, deep red glaze was applied and fired in a traditional kiln, with subtle natural variations that only handwork can produce. The elegant bamboo motif was meticulously hand-painted with pure gold leaf—a labor-intensive technique that is rarely practiced today due to its high cost and extreme difficulty.
Bamboo is a revered symbol in Japanese culture, representing resilience, integrity, and good fortune, and this hand-executed motif adds immense artistic and cultural value.
The vase comes complete with its **original artist-signed wooden tomobako box**, which is hand-inscribed by the maker himself. This is not a generic box—it is the original presentation box that came with the piece when it was first sold, a critical proof of authenticity and provenance that is missing from most surviving examples of this era.
At approx 20cm tall, it is in exceptional, near-mint condition, having been carefully stored in its box for decades.
Pieces like this are becoming incredibly hard to find. The hand-applied gold and red glaze technique has largely been lost, and complete, boxed examples like this are rarely offered for sale on the market, making this a fantastic opportunity for the discerning collector of Japanese arts and crafts.
