The dish is decorated with a central floral motif set within a garden scene, painted in a lively and spontaneous manner characteristic of the Transitional period. The brushwork displays a free and expressive quality, reflecting the changing aesthetics of late Ming export porcelain. The underglaze cobalt blue varies from deep tones to softer washes on a slightly greyish-white body, typical of wares produced for export to Japan.
