江户时代的日本医学 – “I wa Jinjutsu” 医乃仁术 展览目录 + 长崎场馆宣传册 - 平成時期(1989年至今)

This 2-book set includes the official catalog of the 2014 special exhibition “I wa Jinjutsu” (Medicine is Benevolence) together with an original pamphlet from the exhibition’s Nagasaki venue. The exhibition explores the history of Japanese medicine from the Edo period to the present day through the concept of Jin (仁)—the Confucian virtue of benevolence and compassion that has long been regarded as a fundamental principle of medical practice. The catalog features numerous rare historical materials, including anatomical illustrations by Toyo Yamawaki, the original Kaitai Shinsho translated by Genpaku Sugita, historical depictions of the human body and internal organs, Edo-period medical instruments, physicians’ attire, medicine chests, electrotherapy devices, and ophthalmological models and instruments introduced by Siebold. The latter section introduces modern medical innovations such as iPS cell research and advanced 3D medical imaging, tracing the development of Japanese medicine from its historical foundations to the future. Highlights of the exhibition include the first public display in 77 years of Genpaku Sugita’s handwritten hanging scroll and original materials associated with Toyo Yamawaki. The included Nagasaki venue pamphlet adds special value to this set. In Nagasaki, additional materials from the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture and the Nagasaki University Library were exhibited alongside those from the National Museum of Nature and Science. These collections are regarded as exceptionally important sources for understanding Edo-period medicine and the introduction of Western medical knowledge into Japan. The Nagasaki exhibition offered a comprehensive perspective on Japanese medicine, connecting the humanitarian spirit of “Medicine is Benevolence” from the Edo period to the future. Included in this lot Official exhibition catalog: I wa Jinjutsu (2014) Original Nagasaki venue exhibition pamphlet A valuable reference for collectors, researchers, and enthusiasts of Japanese medical history, anatomy, Rangaku (Dutch Studies), medical instruments, and the history of science.
