This is a magnificent, highly collectible ceramic figure created by the prestigious Kiyomizu Rokubei lineage. The base of the figure proudly bears the traditional hexagonal impressed seal "清" (Kiyo), authenticating its origin.
[About Kiyomizu Rokubei]
The Kiyomizu Rokubei family is one of the most legendary and prestigious lineages of ceramic artists in Kyoto, with a continuous history spanning over 250 years since the Edo period (1771). For generations, the masters taking the name "Rokubei" have led the Kyoyaki (Kiyomizu-yaki) tradition, creating exquisite works favored by aristocrats, tea masters, and art collectors worldwide. Owning a piece with the "Kiyo" seal means holding a piece of Kyoto's profound ceramic history.
[About the Figure]
The figure depicts a "Sanbaso Okina", a sacred and auspicious character from traditional Japanese Noh and Kabuki theater, performing a dance to pray for a bountiful harvest and universal peace. The figure's black robes are beautifully hand-painted with highly auspicious Japanese motifs: soaring Cranes and Pine trees, both symbolizing longevity and good fortune.
This museum-quality piece comes with its Tomobako (original signed wooden storage box), which is crucial for proving its authenticity and significantly increases its collector's value.
