Jama-Coaque Anthropomorphic Head – Ecuador – 3rd BC to 2nd Century AD Small anthropomorphic head attributed to the Jama-Coaque culture of ancient Ecuador, displaying an elongated cranial form, almond-shaped eyes, prominent ears, and carefully modelled facial features. The expressive profile and compact sculptural treatment are characteristic of Jama-Coaque figural production, where human representations often reflected identity, status, ritual roles, or symbolic transformation. The piece is made from a light-colored stone or terracotta-like material with a heavily weathered archaeological surface. Despite its small size, the head preserves strong facial definition and an attractive ancient appearance, with mineral deposits and age-related surface wear visible throughout.
