A framed Delft blue tile, painted in cobalt blue on a white glazed ground. The central scene depicts the biblical story of the Good Samaritan, with the injured traveller reclining in the foreground while the second figure tends to him. A horse is shown to the right, referring to the Samaritan’s journey and assistance, while a stylised landscape with a tree, boat, and small architectural details appears to the left. The corners are decorated with traditional spider-head corner motifs.
The tile will be delivered in a dark wooden frame, ready to put on display.
-> The parable of the Good Samaritan, told in the Gospel of Luke, was a popular moral and religious subject in Dutch art. It illustrates compassion and charity, showing a Samaritan helping an injured traveller after others had passed him by.
Condition:
Good condition with age-related signs of wear and irregularities of the glazing to the tile. The painted scene remains clearly visible. The wooden frame is from the 20th century.
Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
