NO RESERVE - ANTIQUE CHINESE BLUE & WHITE BOWL WITH MATCHING SAUCER, NANKING CARGO, 1752. Nicely handpainted bowl with its matching saucer from Geldermalsen shipwreck, former Dutch East India Cy boat, sunk in the South China sea by hitting a reef on Monday January 3, 1752. 32 survived and 80 went down with the ship and its cargo of tea, raw silk, textiles, dried wares, groceries, lacquer and porcelain. The Geldermalsen carried 25,921 bowls, 17,000 undamaged were found. The Chinese porcelain was originally potted in Jingdezhen then shipped to Nanking for final transportation to the Netherlands. The cargo was recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher and his team in 1985 and sold by Christie's Amsterdam on 28 April - 2 May 1985 as 'The Nanking Cargo. Chinese Export Porcelain and Gold' auction two hundred and thirty five years later. Here is one of the cargo Blue & White bowl with underglaze blue tones, nicely handpainted and depicting a pine tree with some geometric designs along the top rim. Stickers of the Nanking cargo auction (lot 5576) still at the back of each piece. A good opportunity to own a little piece of history from this famous shipwreck for a nice & decorative excavated item. Information Art / country: Asian Art, China.
