This striking square bottle vase is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with an antique map of Japan rendered in traditional provincial divisions.

The design features numerous historical place names from pre-modern Japan, carefully arranged across the surface and surrounded by stylized seigaiha (blue ocean wave) patterns. The waves symbolize the surrounding seas, while the islands of Japan emerge from the composition as a decorative cartographic artwork.

Produced in the style of Imari ware, this piece combines traditional Japanese porcelain craftsmanship with a uniquely graphic and educational design. The bold blue-and-white contrast creates a strong visual impact, making it an attractive decorative object even without flowers.

The vase is unsigned and comes without its original wooden box. Based on its construction and decorative style, it is believed to have been produced during the Showa period (approximately mid-20th century).

A distinctive example of Japanese decorative porcelain that blends traditional cartography, folk culture, and ceramic art.
