The painting depicts a vibrant naturalistic scene with five horses in various dynamic poses (running, drinking, and resting) within a mountainous and wooded landscape classic of Chinese pictorial tradition. In Asian culture, the horse is a powerful symbol of strength, vitality, success, and speed in achieving one's goals.
