Antique Japanese Kushi & Kanzashi Hair Ornament Set — Maki-e Gold Lacquer, Hexagonal Presentation Box
A rare complete set of Japanese hair ornaments presented in its original hexagonal presentation box, acquired from a private collection in Kyoto, Japan.
This exceptional set comprises four pieces unified by fine maki-e (gold lacquer) decoration on a deep black lacquer ground:
Kushi (hair comb) — decorated with scrolling arabesque, moon, and geometric motifs in gold maki-e. Elegant curved form typical of Meiji—Taisho period craftsmanship.
Kogai (hair pin) — matching arabesque and moon motif in gold maki-e, consistent with the kushi design.
Kanzashi — gold maki-e with foliage and small raden (mother-of-pearl) accent details.
Kanzashi — red and gold maki-e with cherry blossom and maple leaf motifs.
Original hexagonal fabric-covered presentation box with purple silk border lining. Box shows age-appropriate wear; contents in good antique condition.
Dimensions: to be added after measurement.
Acquired from a private collection in Kyoto, Japan. Consistent with Meiji—Taisho period production, circa 1900—1920.
Condition: Good overall. Minor age wear to lacquer surfaces. Kushi and kogai intact. Both kanzashi intact.
Ships from Kyoto, Japan via EMS (Japan Post) or FedEx. Japan Rare Archive, Kyoto.
