This Altai iron meteorite was discovered by meteorite hunters along the meteorite fall strewn field in the Altai region of Xinjiang, China. It is exceptionally well-preserved, with natural markings left by the passage of time and wind erosion on its surface.

As meteorite resources are increasingly depleted, and most meteorite fall areas are now under strict control, it is no longer possible to enter and collect freely as before. Every piece of meteorite available today is hard-earned, found only through the relentless, carpet-style searches of licensed meteorite hunters, making each specimen extremely precious.
