Known in Japan as joka, these permanent altar flowers represent the lotus, regarded in Buddhism as a symbol of wisdom, compassion and spiritual purity because it blooms cleanly above muddy water. Each arrangement features open lotus blossoms, buds, leaves and stems in a bright gold-coloured finish, set into a dark brass vase with a decorative wave-pattern band. Both vases bear the signature Zenyū (善裕) on the base. Good vintage condition with rubbing, minor discolouration and signs of use. The vases have a few tiny small dents.
