This curated set features two contrasting and poetic nature scenes, perfect for seasonal display or appreciation of traditional Japanese bird-and-flower (Kacho-ga) motifs: Left Scroll - Cherry Blossoms and Stone Lantern (桜と灯篭) by Shoun (祥雲): A lovely, horizontally oriented composition depicting delicate white cherry blossoms softly illuminated near a rustic stone garden lantern. Hand-painted with gentle color washes, it beautifully captures the quiet, elegant atmosphere of spring. It is finished with dark resin roller ends (jikusaki). Right Scroll - Mandarin Ducks (鴛鴦) by Shimamura Sochiku (島村蒼竹): A vibrant, highly detailed depiction of a pair of mandarin ducks, traditionally cherished as a powerful symbol of conjugal harmony, eternal love, and a happy marriage. The meticulous feather details, naturalistic rockery, and colorful foliage reflect excellent artistic skill. It is finished with classic turned wooden roller ends and comes with its original inscribed wooden storage box (Tomobako). Signatures & Seals: Both scrolls are hand-signed (nikuhitsu) by their respective artists with accompanying red artist seals. The exact historical details of Shoun remain unidentified. Accessories: The Mandarin Ducks scroll includes its original matching wooden inscription box (Tomobako). The Cherry Blossom scroll is sold without a box. Condition Report Offered in pre-owned condition with distinct characteristics for each scroll: Mandarin Ducks Scroll (Right): In very good, beautiful condition (Bimi). The silk painting surface remains clean with excellent color retention and only minimal, negligible signs of storage wear. Cherry Blossom Scroll (Left): Shows more noticeable signs of age. There is a prominent, large stain/discoloration patch (shimi) clearly visible at the lower bottom section of the artwork, along with light natural surface waving and age tanning.
