The elegant serpentine front, graceful bombe sides and finely shaped cabriole feet give this chest a refined appearance characteristic of high-quality mid-19th-century cabinetmaking. The drawer fronts and top are veneered with carefully selected burr walnut, displaying a lively natural grain with attractive figuring and warm colour variations. The surrounding darker walnut framing enhances the visual depth and elegance of the design. The chest features three smoothly curved drawers, each retaining its original key escutcheon. The interior of the drawers is lined with decorative patterned paper, adding charm and character. The cabinet has recently undergone a careful, conservative cleaning and revitalisation.
