Description:
Exquisite Dutch sugar basket. Solid silver pierced frame with a movable swing handle. Pure cobalt blue glass liner. Previously misidentified as French silver. Detailed inspection reveals authentic Dutch hallmarks:
Letter "S" in circle (on foot/frame): Official Dutch duty mark used strictly between 1853 and 1859 for items of domestic production. Dates the piece to the mid-1850s.
"Dolphin" mark (on handle/frame): Official Dutch silver hallmark used from 1859 to 1893. On the thin handle it is punched as a clean contour outline to prevent distortion of the delicate part.
Lion Passant mark: Visible as a double stamped (overlapping) punch inside a hexagonal frame on the main body, layered together with the Dolphin mark.
Silver Fineness: Solid silver (guaranteed 800+ Dutch silver standard).
