Item Description A charming carved wood netsuke depicting a plump seated rabbit, finely worked from a rich, dark-toned hardwood — most likely boxwood (tsuge), a material traditionally favored for netsuke carving due to its density and fine grain. The rabbit is shown curled into a rounded, compact pose with its long ears folded back along its body, one hind leg raised to its chest in a naturalistic scratching gesture, and a soft, smiling expression carved into its face with dark-inlaid eyes. The reverse of the piece shows two small himotoshi (cord holes) and a carved artist's seal/signature. The wood has taken on a deep, glossy patina from age and handling, enhancing the warm grain of the material.
