Widely regarded as the leading name in the field, Sansaku Sekiguchi was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award on three occasions, the highest distinction available to kokeshi artists, and was recognised by the Japanese government as a Contemporary Master Craftsman. His works are admired for combining modern artistic expression with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The doll displays Sansaku’s distinctive style, featuring the characteristic bob-cut hairstyle and finely carved floral decoration across the kimono. The gentle expression and elegant form exemplify the refined aesthetic that made his work highly sought after by collectors. The artist’s seal is present on the underside. Two wooden title plaques are included with the doll. Hand-carved and hand-painted wood. The doll is in fair to good vintage condition with some scuffs, a few noticeable scratches, and minor age-related blemishes.
