Conmemorative 5 Leva coin minted in 1976 by the People's Republic of Bulgaria to mark the centenary of the death of Hristo Botev, a poet, journalist and revolutionary regarded as one of Bulgaria's national heroes. The obverse features a imposing frontal portrait of Botev accompanied by his birth and death years, executed with high realism and sculptural depth, highlighting especially the facial features, the beard and the distinctive mustache. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, with the heraldic lion surrounded by a crown of ears of barley and crowned by a star, alongside the denomination of 5 Leva and the issue year. The surfaces exhibit an extraordinary proof finish, with intensely mirrored fields contrasting with satin-relief, creating a high-quality visual effect.
