Founded as the official kiln of the Saga Domain lords in the Edo period, Nabeshima ware is renowned for its exceptionally refined polychrome painting, regarded as Japan's imperial-grade porcelain. The vase is hand-painted in overglaze enamels on a pure white ground with flowering peony motifs: the blue foliage is rich and deep, the peony petals display delicate gradations of red and orange, the leaves a vivid emerald green. The colour palette is elegant and refined, the painting meticulous, the form gracefully proportioned - a classic example of traditional Nabeshima polychrome technique. The peony motif symbolises prosperity and good fortune in Japanese culture, making this an elegant piece for ikebana (花道) flower arrangement or home display. The base bears the iconic Nabeshima double-leaf mark. This corresponds exactly to the ink inscription on the original paulownia tomobako (共箱) box: "Iro-Nabeshima, Vase, Made by Nabeshima Tadanobu", complete with original yellow storage cloth. The full set is preserved intact. No chips, no hairlines, no cracks, no restoration. Overall good condition.
