The stamps exhibit a range of shades from bistre through to black-brown, and are obliterated with either gros chiffre or etoile de Paris cancellations. 34 stamps clearly show specific gros chiffre bureaux and 18 stamps show specific Paris bureaux. 15 stamps show minor flaws and 2 stamps show constant flaw of white mark on final E of EMPIRE. 7 stamps on the bottom row of first page show stages in development of vertical line in front of figure 30 at right.
