賣家描述
Antique Solid Bronze Statuette – Goddess Durga Mahishasuramardini, 24.5cm / 600g
For sale is a collectible ritual statuette made of solid bronze, representing the great Hindu goddess Durga in her most famous pose: Mahishasuramardini (Slayer of the Buffalo Demon). The piece illustrates the moment of cosmic triumph, in which the goddess stands victoriously directly on the severed head of the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
Technical specifications and execution details:
Total height: 24.5 cm.
Weight: 600 grams (heavy bronze, structurally solid).
Iconography: The goddess is depicted with 8 arms (symbol of universal power), wearing the traditional karanda mukuta crown and fine ritual jewelry. Behind her is a spectacular sacred halo with motifs of cosmic flames (Prabha Vali). At the base of the legs, the anatomical details of the fallen buffalo head are very clearly distinguished (the snout, drooping ears and short curved horns on the forehead).
Technique: Traditional manual casting using the ancient method of lost wax casting, a process that gives the piece its uniqueness (the shapes retain a hammered, porous texture, specific to manual work).
Base/Plinth: Geometric, open and hollow base (hollow cast), which preserves traces of patina, oxidation and residues from the burnt earth core used for casting. It does not present secondary metal sealing, an element specific to the Indian artisanal tradition.
Patina of Antiquity: The object presents an exceptional natural verdigris-type patina (green-dusty oxidation of the copper in the alloy), accumulated in the deep reliefs. The prominent areas repeatedly touched (face, chest, arms) show a shiny, coppery historical wear, which confirms the manipulation and the authentic age (estimated at the end of the 19th century - the first half of the 20th century).
Condition:
Very good, the piece is extremely solid, with an integral structure, without cracks, welds or modern repairs. A special exotic antiquity, with a strong mystical aesthetic, ideal for collectors of oriental art, private collections or premium niche decors
