Tatsuzo Shimaoka (島岡達三) (1919-2007) - 杯子 (2) - 石器 - 活着的国宝

A gentle, warmly textured pair of yunomi by a Living National Treasure of Mashiko folk pottery. Thrown in stoneware and finished in Shimaoka's signature jomon-zogan technique, each cup carries a fine rope-impressed texture inlaid with white slip across the body, interrupted by a single loose brushstroke in iron glaze. The soft beige ground and warm brown rim give the pair a quiet, unassuming presence that reflects the mingei spirit of "beauty through use" central to Shimaoka's work. Each piece is carved with the artist's "Ta" mark on the base. 【Artist Profile】 Tatsuzo Shimaoka (1919–2007) was a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property) for mingei ceramics, designated in 1996. Trained under Shoji Hamada in Mashiko, he developed his own independent style within the mingei tradition, becoming best known for jomon-zogan — a technique combining rope-impressed texture with slip inlay — which established him as one of the most internationally recognised Japanese potters of the postwar era. Works by Shimaoka are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work. 【Condition】 Excellent. Minor signs of age commensurate with careful storage. 【Shipping】 Carefully packed and shipped internationally with full tracking for safe delivery. 【※Important Information – Please Read Before Bidding※】 Customs duties, VAT, and import clearance fees are not included in the shipping cost and are the responsibility of the buyer. These charges vary depending on your country's import regulations and are beyond the seller's control. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. All items are carefully packed and promptly shipped with tracking to ensure safe delivery. Please bid with confidence.
