Dogon metalwork forms an important part of the material culture of the region. Bracelets, rings, pendants and small metal objects were produced by Dogon blacksmiths and could combine personal adornment, prestige and symbolic value. This example is especially appealing for its powerful sculptural form. The bracelet is open, with a broad body composed of parallel rounded bands. These bands give the piece a strong rhythm and a compact architectural presence. The upper section is richly decorated with incised geometric motifs, including cross-hatched panels, curved linear patterns and small dotted or beaded elements. The decoration is both dense and well organized, emphasizing the structure of the bracelet without overwhelming its form. The surface shows a beautiful old bronze patina, with warm brown-golden tones, darker areas and traces of oxidation in places. The high points are softened by handling, while the incised decoration remains clearly visible. A very attractive Dogon-attributed bracelet, appreciated for its strong ribbed form, fine engraved decoration, old patina and powerful presence as a West African metal ornament. Condition Good condition overall, with wear, oxidation, rubbing, small marks and surface irregularities consistent with age and use. Beautiful old bronze patina with traces of oxidation.
