Takahashi Rakusai IV – Shigaraki Ware Kogo (Incense Container) – Natural Bidoro Ash Glaze – With Original Signed Wooden Box Product Overview A Shigaraki ware incense container (kōgō) by Takahashi Rakusai IV, one of the distinguished potters continuing the long-established Rakusai lineage of Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. This compact square-form kogo features a rich contrast between the warm reddish Shigaraki clay and naturally formed green bidoro (ash) glaze. The flowing natural glaze and fire marks create an expressive surface that reflects the aesthetics of traditional wood-fired Shigaraki ceramics. The piece comes with its original signed kiri-wood storage box (tomobako) with Sanada cord and wrapping paper. Product Details This incense container is crafted in the traditional Shigaraki style, emphasizing the natural beauty created during wood firing. The softly rounded square form is enhanced by flowing green bidoro ash glaze cascading over the surface, while exposed areas of iron-rich clay display warm reddish-brown tones and natural firing effects. Rather than relying on painted decoration, the work celebrates the interaction of clay, ash, and flame—hallmarks of authentic Shigaraki pottery. The original tomobako bears the artist's inscription and seal on the lid, providing an important accompanying feature for collectors of Japanese tea ceremony utensils.
