Well-used typical Aklama figure, used on family altars by the Adan and Ewe people of Togo. These figures could be used as a way of communicating with the ancestors in times of need or used as a protective figure to ward off evil powers. Minimalistic typical design, with the ritual omission of one arm. Decorated with red ocre and white kaolin to enhance the power of this figure. The patina shows the intense use of this figure on an altar. Collected in Togo in the late 1990,s and coming from a private Dutch collection. Height; 34 cm. Beautiful collectors item!
