A quintessential 1970s Constellation featuring a classic integrated bracelet design and a crisp stainless steel fluted bezel. This reference 168.0054 represents the distinctive geometry of the era, presenting a vertical brushed silver dial framed by unique edge patina, all powered by the chronometer-certified Omega Caliber 1021.
Brand: Omega
Model: Constellation
Reference Number: 168.0054
Serial Number: 34280301
Movement: Caliber 1021, 23 Jewels, Automatic Chronometer
Dial: Silver with vertical brushed finish and day-date window
Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Stainless Steel
Production Year: 1972
Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -15-17s/day with strong amplitude, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The silver dial features a striking vertical brushed finish, complemented by applied indices with black inserts and a framed day-date window positioned at three o'clock. A noticeable brownish patina and spotting ring has developed around the extreme outer edge of the dial, framing the center with distinct vintage character. The text printing remains crisp and fully legible. The stick hands, featuring black inserts that match the dial indices, display a clean surface finish with no significant oxidation or damage visible.
Case and Crystal
The 36 mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case displays a brushed finish with edges that remain relatively well-defined. Light surface scratches consistent with normal wear are present throughout the case profile. The stainless steel fluted bezel remains notably crisp and well-defined, showing minimal wear. On the reverse, the caseback features a crisp observatory medallion with all eight stars clearly visible. The watch is operated via a signed Omega crown with intact, well-defined knurling. The flat crystal is generally clear, showing some minor surface scratches and dust visible under direct light.
Movement
Inside beats the automatic Omega Caliber 1021, featuring the copper-colored finish typical of Omega movements from this era. Engraved with twenty-three jewels and adjusted to five positions and temperature, the caliber appears very clean with no visible corrosion, oxidation, or significant tool marks. The rotor and bridges are well-preserved. The timegrapher records -15-17s/day with strong amplitude. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed integrated stainless steel bracelet, secured by a signed Omega clasp. The bracelet shows moderate wear and surface scratches consistent with honest use, with some stretch likely given the style and period of the components. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 18.5 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The stainless steel case retains preserved geometry and honest wear, while the fluted bezel remains highly distinct. The dial presents an attractive brushed finish alongside its noticeable outer edge patina. The integrated bracelet shows moderate wear and surface scratches from use. The copper-colored movement remains exceptionally clean.
Dimensions
Case Size: 36 mm (excluding the crown)
Remarks
This Constellation offers a highly wearable integrated design paired with a reliable, chronometer-certified Omega caliber. The preserved fluted bezel and distinct dial character make it a compelling example of 1970s watchmaking.
History
The Omega Constellation line has long represented the brand's dedication to precision and refined design. By the 1970s, the collection evolved to include bolder, tonneau-shaped cases and integrated bracelets, reflecting the shifting aesthetic preferences of the decade. Powered by the Caliber 1021, this era of the Constellation maintained Omega's stringent chronometer standards while embracing a substantially more modern visual identity.
