Description:
A bronze okimono in the form of a carp by Naoki Tominaga. The sculpture is rendered with a compact, solid body, raised dorsal fin, and finely worked scales, giving the fish a strong and lively presence. Its dark patina enhances the sculptural modeling and surface texture. The underside bears the artist’s inscription, and the work is accompanied by its original wooden tomobako signed on the lid interior.

Artist Profile:
Naoki Tominaga was a Japanese sculptor born in Nagasaki in 1913. He studied sculpture at Tokyo Fine Arts School and trained under Kitamura Seibo. He was active in the Nitten exhibition system, later serving in senior roles, and became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1974. He received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1972, was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 1984, and was awarded the Order of Culture in 1989.
