維京時代 青銅色 “北方水域之蛇”护身符,象征力量、转化、保护,以及 the (沒有保留價)

This remarkable bronze amulet displays an elaborate Early Medieval zoomorphic composition enclosed within a tall arched frame. At the center is a powerful hybrid creature with a scaled or dotted body, pronounced head, curved limbs or fins, and a divided tail. Smaller animal and serpentine forms appear around it, creating a densely interwoven scene of movement, struggle, and transformation. The creature may be interpreted as a mythical serpent, dragon, or guardian beast. In the symbolic world of the Early Middle Ages, such animals represented forces that were both dangerous and protective: guardians of treasure, embodiments of natural power, and intermediaries between the human and supernatural realms. The surrounding smaller creatures may suggest a scene connected with the sea, predation, cosmic struggle, or the continual cycle of life and death. The composition does not necessarily illustrate one identifiable Norse myth; rather, it belongs to the broader Early Medieval tradition of combining animals into symbolic, interlaced designs whose meanings could include protection, strength, vigilance, transformation, and mastery over chaos. The arched architectural border gives the scene the appearance of a sacred doorway or enclosed shrine. Rows of punched dots and diagonal ornament frame the central imagery, emphasizing order and containment around the energetic animal forms. This contrast between the structured border and the restless creatures within may symbolize the control of dangerous powers through ritual, belief, or personal courage. Its rich green, brown, and copper-toned patina enhances the depth of the relief and preserves the striking historical character of the bronze. Adapted as a pendant, the object becomes a powerful personal emblem evoking the mystery and artistic imagination of the Early Medieval world. D: 50mm Object: Openwork Zoomorphic Plaque Amulet / Pendant Material: Bronze Design: Arched rectangular frame containing a large hybrid serpent, dragon, or fish-like creature accompanied by smaller zoomorphic forms Symbolism: Protection, transformation, strength, vigilance, natural power, and victory over chaos Attributed Period: Early Medieval, probably 8th–11th century AD Cultural Attribution: Probably Viking Age, Northern European, Eastern European, or related Early Medieval tradition Condition: Well preserved with extensive decorative detail and a rich archaeological-style patina Attribution notice The animal forms are highly stylized, so the central figure cannot be identified with certainty as a specific Norse creature. Describing it as a mythical serpent or dragon-like guardian beast is more defensible than naming it as Jörmungandr, Fáfnir, or another particular mythological being without stronger comparative evidence.
