Entirely freehand painted in underglaze cobalt blue, the interior is decorated with a lively depiction of a qilin within a floral landscape. The confident brushwork, subtle tonal variations in the cobalt, and the spontaneous execution are characteristic of traditional hand-painted Chinese porcelain. The cavetto is bordered by a scrolling vine pattern, while the exterior is decorated with stylized ruyi motifs. The unglazed foot and honest wear are consistent with age and use.
