Item Description
Antique-style Japanese miniature tansu (chest of drawers) with three graduated drawers, finished in a rich reddish-brown wood-grain lacquer and fitted throughout with black iron campaign-style corner brackets, edge straps and drop-bail handles with pierced backplates. The compact, tabletop-sized cabinet was traditionally used for storing small items such as sewing tools, jewelry or other personal treasures, and its sturdy joinery and hand-finished interior drawers (shown in unlacquered light wood) reflect traditional Japanese cabinetmaking techniques. The warm patina of the wood grain, combined with the dark iron hardware at every corner and edge, gives the piece a striking, well-built presence reminiscent of Japanese campaign and traveling chests. A charming decorative accent piece as well as a genuinely useful small storage cabinet.

Condition
