Xavier Álvarez de Eulate (San Sebastián, 1919–2012) Important original work by the renowned Basque artist Xavier Álvarez de Eulate, a leading figure in contemporary Spanish religious art and a key contributor to the artistic renewal of the Sanctuary of Arantzazu. This expressive depiction of Christ is executed in mixed media on a rigid wooden panel. The composition displays the artist’s characteristic visual language from the 1970s, combining religious figuration with abstract elements and a bold exploration of colour and texture. Signed and dated in the lower right corner: “Eulate 24 XII 75”, corresponding to 24 December 1975. Artwork dimensions: 80 × 60 cm. Sold with its original metal frame, as shown in the photographs. The painting is in very good overall condition, showing only minor signs of age consistent with the period.
