盛放鹌鹑的摆盘托盘 - 漆木 - 日本 - 明治時期(1868-1912)
A refined pair of nested lacquered hirobuta 広蓋 (presentation trays), decorated with quails 鶉 (uzura) amongst flowering millet.
The rectangular trays with rounded corners are decorated with an elegant autumnal composition of a small covey of quails gathered beneath arching stalks of flowering millet 粟 (awa). The heavy seed heads bend over the birds, which stand attentively amongst low grasses.
The decoration is executed in finely rendered hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer) and takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer) in varying tones of gold against a dense reddish gold nashiji 梨子地 ground. The rims are finished in fundame 粉溜地 (matte gold lacquer).

In very good condition, with minor nicks along the edges and light wear consistent with age. Please refer to the photographs for a clear condition reference.
Complete with a lacquered wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box).
Hirobuta 広蓋 were traditionally used as formal presentation trays for offerings, gifts, or ceremonial items such as kimono or documents.
