Name: Protective Snow Lion Craft: Traditional Lost-Wax Casting Dimensions: Approx. H 26.5 cm × W 20.5 cm × D 12.5 cm (10.43 in × 8.07 in × 4.92 in) Weight: 2489 g (2.49 kg) Material: Brass (Copper Alloy) Period: Late 20th century, circa 1970–1990, handmade by Newar artisans in Nepal This snow lion ornament is cast as a single piece via traditional Nepalese lost-wax casting. It follows the classic metalworking techniques of the Newar community of the Kathmandu Valley, representing a typical protective decorative piece for Himalayan Tibetan Buddhism. Shaped in the traditional Nepalese sacred snow lion form, the figure has a robust build and imposing, lively posture. The lion’s head roars with wide eyes, adorned with densely layered, curled manes. It features sturdy limbs and an ornately curled tail. All decorative motifs are seamlessly integrated in casting, and the sculpture is solid and weighty. It bears natural signs of age including original patina, oxidation, surface scratches and accumulated dust. No missing sections or repairs. Overall condition is good relative to its age.
