A wonderfully preserved ceramic bulla (seal for documents) featuring a portrait of the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius. Born in 86 AD, he rose to the position of emperor in July 138 and went on to rule until March 161 - his reign as one of the five good emperors (Nerva - Antonine dynasty). His rule would be one of the longest among emperors of Rome. His adoptive father was his predecessor, the emperor Hadrian. The seal measures 18 x 18mm.
