Suspension in stamped metal and ruby glass Votive Lantern – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Fascinating and rare example of a votive lantern (or tabernacle/churchyard chapel lamp) dating from the period between the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. This splendid liturgical and ecclesiastical object stands out for its artisanal craftsmanship, carefully finished in every detail, expression of popular devotion of the era. The structure is entirely made of stamped metal and finely chased with rich ornamental motifs in relief in a classical and Baroque style. The four sides feature splendid panes of ancient ruby red glass, characterized by a raised Greek cross that diffuses a warm, suggestive and soft light. The lantern is equipped with a fully functioning front little door with a lateral hinge for inserting the candle or oil lamp, a cupola topped with a pinnacle cross, and its original metal suspension chains. A piece of high class, ideal for collectors of sacred art, liturgical objects, or for lovers of antiques and vintage items with a strong visual impact.
Technical Details:
Period: Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century
Material: Stamped metal (ancient alloy with original patina), ruby red glass
Dimensions: 16 x 8 x 8 cm (overall height excluding suspension chain)
Weight: 150 grams
Condition: Excellent overall condition considering its age. The metal shows a beautiful and authentic patina of time that enhances its historical charm. The red glass is intact and free of cracks. (Please view the photographic gallery carefully, which is an integral part of the description).
