Guigal Côte-Rôtie “La Turque” – 0.75L La Turque is one of E. Guigal’s three internationally celebrated single-vineyard Côte-Rôtie wines, together with La Mouline and La Landonne. Collectively known as the legendary “La-La” wines, they are regarded as benchmarks of the Northern Rhône and rank among France’s most prestigious and sought-after collector wines. La Turque is produced from a tiny, exceptionally situated vineyard parcel on the Côte Brune. The wine is traditionally composed of approximately 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, co-fermented and matured for an extended period of approximately 40 months in new French oak barrels. The 2018 vintage is an exceptional and extremely highly acclaimed expression of La Turque. Powerful, concentrated and remarkably balanced, it displays complex aromas and flavours of blackberry, black cherry, cassis, smoked meat, graphite, violets, olives, oriental spices and pepper. Its purity, structure and exceptionally long finish give it outstanding potential for several decades of further maturation. The 2014 vintage offers a more elegant and approachable expression of La Turque. It combines raspberry and blackberry fruit with classic Côte-Rôtie notes of smoked bacon, olives, violets, charred meat and fine spices. Silky tannins, freshness and a long, complex finish make it suitable for drinking now after careful decanting, while it also retains excellent further ageing potential. Both bottles have been carefully stored lying horizontally in a temperature-controlled wine refrigerator, protected from light, vibration and significant temperature fluctuations.
