20. ACCA MS-68PL, 1989年日本第124代昭和天皇鍍金紀念章, 少見
昭和天皇（1901—1989年），名裕仁（Hirohito），是日本第124代天皇 (1926~1989年間在位)。除了日本神話中的天皇之外，昭和天皇是歷代天皇中在位最久者，也是史上在位時間最長的「皇帝」之一。裕仁在大正15年（1926年）繼位，當時日本為亞洲強國之一，因大蕭條而出現經濟衰退，在此背景下，帝國主義擴張論大行其道，並於之後發動戰爭。昭和天皇在位初期，經歷第二次世界大戰，1937年策動七七事變，中日戰爭開始，1941年突然偷襲美國，並正式與中國宣戰，之後攻佔東亞、東南亞地區，使其加入「大東亞共榮圈」，國力邁向頂峰。受到原子彈轟炸後，昭和天皇在1945年發表《終戰詔書》，帝國滅亡，並通過廣播向全國民眾親口布告戰爭終止，這在日本史上屬首次。昭和天皇沒有受到同盟國的起訴，但他作為當時日本的國家元首兼陸海軍最高統帥需負起多少戰爭責任的議題仍很有爭議。

20. ACCA MS-68PL, 1989 Japan 124th Emperor Showa Gilded Commemorative Medal, Rare
Emperor Showa (1901–1989), named Hirohito, was the 124th Emperor of Japan (reigned 1926–1989). Apart from the emperors in Japanese mythology, Emperor Showa had the longest reign among all historical emperors and was one of the longest-reigning 'emperors' in history. Hirohito ascended the throne in Taisho 15 (1926), at a time when Japan was one of the major Asian powers, facing economic decline due to the Great Depression. Under this backdrop, imperialist expansion was widely promoted, eventually leading to wars. Early in his reign, Emperor Showa went through World War II. In 1937, he instigated the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, starting the Sino-Japanese War. In 1941, Japan suddenly attacked the United States and officially declared war on China, later occupying East and Southeast Asia, joining the 'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere,' and bringing the nation to its peak power. After the atomic bombings, Emperor Showa issued the 'Imperial Rescript on the Termination of the War' in 1945, marking the end of the empire, and personally announced the war's end to the entire nation via radio broadcasting for the first time in Japanese history. He was not prosecuted by the Allied forces, but the question of how much war responsibility he bore as the head of state and supreme commander of the army and navy remains controversial.
After Japan's surrender, even though the monarchy was retained, Emperor Showa had effectively lost almost all political power post-war and also renounced his divinity, existing solely as a symbol of the state and the people of Japan. After the war, he focused on marine biology research, personal life, social volunteer work, and more. During his 63-year reign, he witnessed Japan transform from a major world power to a militaristic totalitarian state and one of Asia's largest empires (during the empire and wartime occupations), and later into a modernized post-war economic powerhouse. He passed away in 1989.
