Specifications: Weight: 5 troy ounces (approx 155,5 gram) Finess: 0,999 (Fine Silver) Year: 1987 Obverse: Portrait of Paul Kruger and "STEFANS JOHANNES KRUGER" Reverse: The classical Springbok-antilope and "Krugerrand 20th Anniversary Commemorative 1967 - 1987" Very rare: The unusual story ("Cease and Desist"): When these medallions went into production in 1987, it was done without permission from the South African government, which owns the rights to the Krugerrand name and design. According to numismatic sources and collector lore, the South African government intervened and contacted US authorities. This resulted in the private mint receiving a cease-and-desist order; production was immediately halted, and the remaining unsold medallions were destroyed. The 5-ounce version is significantly rarer than the 1-ounce version from the same series.
