Masonic Allegory with Peacock (2011) Title: Masonic Allegory with Peacock & Cosmic Order Artist: Anonymous Masonic Artist (Signed under the pseudonym „Bienush”) Year: 2011 Medium: Acrylic / Oil on Stretched Canvas (Heavy Impasto) Dimensions: 40 x 40 cm (15.7 x 15.7 in) Condition: Excellent original condition, ready to hang. Overview & Anonymity This intriguing original artwork (40x40 cm) offers a rare glimpse into contemporary esoteric symbolism. Painted in 2011 by a member of the Romanian Freemasonry who deliberately chose to remain anonymous, the piece is signed with the single pseudonym „Bienush” in the lower right corner. The artist's intentional anonymity aligns with the Masonic principle of humility, allowing the sacred geometry and symbolic message of the artwork to take precedence over individual identity. Technique & Surface: Heavy Impasto • Tactile Texture: Executed on a square 40x40 cm stretched canvas, the work features an intense, highly tactile impasto technique. • Dimensional Relief: The paint—particularly on the central Sun and celestial elements—is laid down in thick, sculpted layers that give the canvas a striking three-dimensional quality and dynamic light reflection. • Expressive Palette: Bold cobalt blues, rich purples, and vibrant yellows are applied with energetic, visible brushwork that gives the composition a strong Naïve/Outsider Art expression. Symbolism & Composition The visual narrative blends Masonic iconography with esoteric natural allegories: • The Masonic Heraldic Shield: Located in the bottom-left corner, the coat of arms displays the Square and Compasses with the Letter 'G' across blue quarters, alongside textured white emblems (Agnus Dei / Paschal Lamb motifs) on red fields. • The Sacred Mosaic Pavement: The shield rests atop a black crenellated structure representing the checkered floor (mosaic pavement) of the Lodge, symbolizing dualistic cosmic forces. • The Peacock & Cosmic Order: The central figure—a stylized peacock—symbolizes resurrection, immortality, and spiritual vigilance. Surrounding it are the "Great Lights" of the cosmos: a radiant Sun, a crescent Moon, and star-eyes embedded in the peacock's tail. Condition & Display The painting is in pristine condition on its original 40x40 cm wooden stretcher frame. The reverse side features the natural canvas texture with original staples and comes fitted with a metal sawtooth hanger on the top bar for immediate display.
