Pair of hand-carved wooden figures, made by the Namji (Dowayo) people from northern Cameroon. Highly regarded in the field of African folk art, figures like these historically served as fertility dolls and protective amulets, carried by women and families to ensure prosperity and safe childbirth. They feature highly stylized, angular bodies, rigid T-shaped postures, and bold facial carving. The larger figure features a distinctive headpiece adorned with authentic strips of flexible aluminum that cascade downward to replicate traditional braided hair or decorative elements.
