A lovely wooden Omi mizuya’dansu 水屋箪笥 (kitchen cabinet) in two sections. Fully restored, cleaned, and waxed. Crafted from a hinoki 桧 (Japanese cypress) frame with sugi 杉 (Japanese cedar) panels, the cabinet is finished in an attractive warm brown tone. The upper section features two pairs of sliding doors. The left pair is fitted with slat panels, while the right pair has openwork panels backed with metal mesh for ventilation. All doors are fitted with elegant oblong copper thumb grips. Beneath are eight drawers in two different sizes, each mounted with sturdy copper bail handles. The lower section is configured with a full-width pair of sliding doors strengthened with horizontal wooden bars, while the sides of the cabinet are reinforced with matching exposed wooden braces. This type of cabinet originates from Omi province, Shiga prefecture in Japan. Period: Japan – Shôwa period (1926–1989), bearing an interior inscription dated Shôwa 35 (1960). Dimensions: Height 171.2 cm (T 89 cm, B 81.2 cm), Width 178 cm, Depth 47 cm. The cabinet is in very good restored condition, with minor traces of wear consistent with age.
