The Buddha sits in the standard lotus posture. Statue Decoration The Buddha has a topknot, a gentle face, a white urna (urna tuft) between the eyebrows, and long, drooping ears. The robe has flowing folds, and the back is fully decorated with auspicious cloud and dragon motifs in relief. The dragon motifs are delicately carved, a highlight of this statue; the edges of the robe and skirt are carved with scrolling cloud patterns. The double-layered lotus pedestal has full, regular petals, and the edge of the lotus base is decorated with beaded patterns. This is a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha at the moment of enlightenment. The earth-touching mudra (gesture) symbolizes taking the earth as witness, dispelling all demonic disturbances, and represents enlightenment and peace.
