五件套:Sentani湖的1900年代初发现 - Sentani - 西巴布亚 (沒有保留價)

Group of Five Traditional Implements from Lake Sentani, West Papua An interesting and increasingly difficult to find group of five traditional implements from the Lake Sentani region in northern West Papua. What makes this group particularly remarkable is its provenance. According to the information received when the objects were collected, all five implements were found together on the bottom of Lake Sentani by a local fisherman. Their long presence in the lake may also help explain the particular surface and patina visible on the objects. The group includes traditional implements associated with the preparation and eating of sago, the staple food of the Sentani people. Among them are a sago fork and sago porridge forks, used in connection with the preparation and consumption of the thick sago porridge that has traditionally formed an important part of daily life around Lake Sentani. Also included is a traditional dagger made partly from bone. Such daggers were personal objects with both practical and cultural significance. Wood, bone and other locally available materials were skilfully fashioned into implements intended for everyday use. The fact that these five pieces were reportedly recovered together from the bottom of Lake Sentani makes the group especially intriguing. It is impossible to know precisely how or why they came to rest there, but together they form an evocative assemblage of early Sentani material culture. The surfaces show considerable age and traces consistent with prolonged exposure and use. These are not objects made as souvenirs, but traditional implements belonging to the material culture of the Lake Sentani communities. A rare and highly interesting group for collectors of early West Papuan ethnographic material and particularly for those interested in the traditional culture of Lake Sentani.
