Baume & Mercier Genève – Vintage Bicompax Chronograph – Ref. 902 – 1940 - 1960 No Reserve Description Baume & Mercier Genève vintage mechanical chronograph, dating from approximately the 1940s. An attractive and authentic early Baume & Mercier two-register chronograph, featuring a highly characterful original-looking patinated dial. The watch has a 34 mm case (excluding crown and pushers), a very elegant and typical size for a gentleman’s chronograph of this period. The dial is signed “Baume & Mercier Genève” and features Arabic numerals, a small seconds register at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The mechanical hand-wound chronograph movement is marked “17 Rubis” and is currently running. The chronograph has been tested: * the chronograph starts correctly; * it stops correctly; * the 30-minute counter advances and functions; * the reset function is not consistent. the chronograph starts and stops correctly and the minute counter advances as expected. However, the reset function is not working correctly: when the reset pusher is pressed, the chronograph hands do not return to their zero/12 o’clock position. A service or adjustment is therefore recommended. For this reason, although the watch is running, a service is recommended and no guarantee regarding accuracy, power reserve or future operation can be given. The dial shows strong age-related patina, oxidation and wear, clearly visible in the photographs. It has deliberately not been restored or refinished, preserving the vintage character of the watch. The case also shows age-related wear and loss to the surface finish. The stainless-steel case back is marked internally: “FOND ACIER INOXYDABLE” 390665 The exterior of the case back is marked 902. The watch comes with its existing vintage leather strap. The strap is in poor/worn condition and should be considered for replacement. It has been left fitted to the watch.
